Abstract:
The study aimed at investigating the relationship between Hashish addiction and depression. It also aimed at informing of the danger of Hashish addiction, and providing good ways of protection. The study is based on four assumptions. First, a positive correlation between Hashish taking and level of depression among the university students in Khartoum State. Secondly, Hashish addiction is more common among the male students. Thirdly, Hashish addiction is more common science students. Fourthly, there’s no significant statistical differences in the degree of depression that can be attributed to the faculty type among Hashish addicts. The study sample was n selected from the University of Khartoum, Al – Nilain University, Sudan University of Science and Technology and Al- Ahfad University. The study has used Beck measurement of depression, while “chi” sgin and Spearman one measurements have been used to calculate correlation. T – test has also been used to measure the differences among the groups. The findings have indicated that Hashish was more taken by male students, specifically the finalist ones (Fourth and Fifth level). It was also widely taken by science faculties students. The study has also shown a correlation between Hashish addiction and depression levels among the university students in Khartoum State. The study has recommended that the community should be made aware of the danger of Hashish addiction among the university students. The study has also recommended methods of protection against narcotics taking, and the establishment of specialized centres for medicating the addicts.
