Abstract
Title:
Psychological and social problems most common and some personality traits in a sample
of undergraduates in college of teachers in Taif Governorate .

Objectives: This study aims to identify the most common psychological and social problems
inclouded in the following problems: (psychological loneliness, temperament, inclination to
violence, self-abuse, passiveness) and their relation to personality traits: (extroversion,
neuroticism, felicity, kindness and fidelity in a sample of freshmen college of teachers in Al Taif
Zone in the academic year 1428/1429 (n=226) from all departments of the college.
Tools: Psychological and social problems scale, major personal factor check list scale by Costa
& Mackery, (1992) (Arabic version by Badr Al Ansari, 1997) were used in this study. Statistical
methods suitable for the nature of the study problems were also used .
Main Results:
- Some psychological and social problems are more common in the study population. The
problems order was as follows: (psychological loneliness, neuroticism and inclination to
violence, self-abuse and passiveness).
- The order of the psychological and social problems differs in the subjects according to
specialization but it does not differ upon the academic grade.
- There was positive statistically significant correlation between neuroticism, and
psychological and social problems.
-There is no statistically significant correlation between felicity trait and the problems of
neuroticism and inclination to violence, self-abuse and psychological loneliness) while there
was negative statistically significant correlation between felicity and the problem of
passivism.
- There is negative statistically significant correlation between kindness and the
psychological and social problems.
- There is negative statistically significant correlation between fidelity and the psychological
and social problems.
- There is negative statistically significant correlation between extroversion and the
psychological and social problems.
- There are no statistically significant differences between mean scores of students of
psychological studies and mean scores of student from theoretical specializations on the scale
of personality traits in the factors of neuroticism, felicity, fidelity and extraversion but there
are statistically significant differences in kindness trait for students from theoretical
specializations.
- There are no statistically significant differences between mean scores of freshmen and
mean scores of second stage on the scale of personality traits in neuroticism, felicity, kindness
and fidelity but these difference are in extroversion for the second level students (higher
grades).
Recommendations :
- To presntthecaring programs for families aiming to proctise them on how to plant self
confidence in their sons and strengthing the relationship with them and successful methods to
correct their errors.
- finding specilzed centres which cares with youth studies and what concerns their problems
regularly to define and specially during the cultural, knowledgeable and wide scientific movement
which youth live in.
- Providing asuitable cretiria the students who want to join the facutities of teachers and the
faculties of education to select the best of them to do the educational duty. We should cencen trate
on their personality characterstics and their social and psychological states.
- Youth should be trained on skills needed for their welfare and career through free programs to
enhance positiveness and success in life and to overcome their problems and support their
communication with the society.
